I haven’t written about stitching in like, forever. Been too busy with work to stitch, up until a few nights ago when I decided it was time to get back into the swing of things. Palace Princess has been put on hold indefinitely because I’m tired of staring at browns all the time, so I’m just working on Santa’s Treasures for now. Anyway, Christmassy stuff makes me happy.
What’s been done so far that you see in the picture (Santa’s hat, face and a bit of his beard) is the culmination of two months of on-off stitching for about an hour a time, at most. I’m a slowpoke stitcher. I’m aiming to finish Santa himself first before starting on the Xmas trees, the animals and the background.
This is the first time I’m stitching anything on plainweave (aka evenweave). I chose 28-count Jazlyn simply because Spotlight didn’t have anything else suitable on the day I went fabric shopping. After getting over the basics of stitching over two instead of over one as with Aida, I’m really enjoying working with this fabric. I don’t think I’ll stitch on Aida again.
This is also the first time I’ve substituted kit floss for DMC using an online conversion. I’ve been a bit worried about the colours, but so far so good. Except for the furry part of his hat which is supposed to be in three colours, but I had to use only two because there was a duplicate conversion. It will also affect his coat cuffs and hem. Once the backstitch is in, it should look fine. I hope.
